Mechanisms of Cutaneous Sensation

چکیده
There are a number of serious shortcomings in the book. The title "Primer for the Psychotherapist" is quite misleading as this suggests that it contains an account of basic skills for psychotherapists but, in fact, it indicates that the non-medical psychotherapist should be able to differentiate between such conditions as duodenal ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Parkinson's disease and thyrotoxicosis. The description of the organic and pyschological illnesses in this book are very simplistic and without good background knowledge and information could lead to many clinical misdiagnoses and difficulties. Because of these two serious shortcomings I feel this book should not be used without adequate control and supervision by the lay psychotherapist. ECO'G

Cutaneous sensory function in diabetes mellitus.
That disorders of cutaneous sensation are common in diabetes mellitus can be substantiated by quantitative cutaneous sensory testing. Cutaneous sensory disturbances are not clearly related to clinical factors such as the type, treatment, or duration of diabetes, or ocular complications. Diabetics can be distinguished from nondiabetics on quantitative examination of skin sensation. Juvenile diab...
متن کاملThe Prevalence and Magnitude of Impaired Cutaneous Sensation across the Hand in the Chronic Period Post-Stroke
Sensation is commonly impaired immediately post-stroke but little is known about the long-term changes in cutaneous sensation that have the capacity to adversely impact independence and motor-function. We investigated cutaneous sensory thresholds across the hand in the chronic post-stroke period. Cutaneous sensation was assessed in 42 community-dwelling stroke patients and compared to 36 health...
متن کاملObjective Evaluation of Tactile Sensation for Tactile Communication
We humans use the five senses of “sight, sound, touch, taste and smell,” to interact with other people and various objects around us. While remote communication with video and speech have become familiar to us lately, DoCoMo is currently working on research aiming at finding ways to communicate via tactile sensation, which is believed to be important in terms of information volume, which comes ...
متن کاملTranscriptional Profiling of Cutaneous MRGPRD Free Nerve Endings and C-LTMRs
Cutaneous C-unmyelinated MRGPRD+ free nerve endings and C-LTMRs innervating hair follicles convey two opposite aspects of touch sensation: a sensation of pain and a sensation of pleasant touch. The molecular mechanisms underlying these diametrically opposite functions are unknown. Here, we used a mouse model that genetically marks C-LTMRs and MRGPRD+ neurons in combination with fluorescent cell...
